California Citrus State Historic Park

Over the weekend, I returned to this, another one of my favorite places. Citrus groves and Craftsman architecture combine in a state historic park that is designed in the style of a city park from the 1900's.

Newly opened is the Visitor's Center and Museum, which is housed in a building reminiscent of a packing house. Also new is a small formal garden that sits at the foot of the next phase for the park, which will include a Grower's Mansion to serve food in its restaurant and to host guests staying overnight.

I also have several favorite coffeehouses and the like. And, many of them are quite distinctive and interesting.

I have so many favorite restaurants throughout southern California that I think a thread devoted to the subject is in order.

Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival

Over the weekend, I attended the Balloon and Wine Festival held at Lake Skinner near the wine country of the Temecula Valley. The event was worthwhile, and I would recommend it in the future. But, I think next time I will devote the middle of the day to touring the wineries and vineyards, as well as Old Town Temecula. Activities involving the hot-air balloons only occur at dawn and dusk.

My only complaint is that the quality of the food does not match that of the wines for the most part. I expected tapas from local restaurants, but, unfortunately, the organizers of the festival apparently do not see the connection between food and wine.
